Welcome to DHPC website
** Club Curry Night - Weds 28th July
It seems that the Curry house near the Downs is rated very highly.
Welcome to DHPC
Dunstable Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club is a small club with about 150 members. We can be seen flying the chiltern hills in Bedfordshire and Bucks.
We have 3 free flying sites; Sharpenhoe Clappers, Chinnor and Dunstable Downs and also have access to flying fields for SPHG (powered Hang Gliders and Paramotors).
We are a BHPA registered club but we cannot teach you fly. For that you need a BHPA registered school.
Once you are qualified we do offer an active coaching scheme to help you safely improve and expand your flying.
Please see the Club News section and the events calendar. If you're organising an event then let us know and we'll add it to the calendar. Remember to join the forum to ask questions, introduce yourself and find out who is flying where and when.
Attention All Pilots
Warning! Dunstable Downs is in close proximity to Luton airport. The airspace over Dunstable Downs is categorized as Class D and pilots must adhere to the rules of the air.
Flying is allowed (in certain areas) under the terms of a legal agreement (the Letter of Agreement) with the CAA.
To fly at this site it is a legal requirement for all pilots to
1 - be a BHPA Member and have attained BHPA CP(Hill) qualification + 10 hours airtime (under 10 hours only allowed under coach supervision)
2 - be members of DHPC (see membership section it is only £20)
3 - to have been officially signed off by a DHPC club coach as having received the airspace briefing and passed the airspace test. (This does not take long)
4 - carry a current airspace map (These are available at London Gliding Club)
5 - carry a calibrated altimeter (trig point is at the gateway centre)
Breach of these rules could result in imprisonment and a £2000 fine
Our club has worked hard to ensure that flying is allowed to continue at Dunstable Downs, please do not do anything to jeopardize this.
Please see site guide and the LOA for more details.
Airspace briefings can be arranged by appointment; please contact a club coach to arrange a mutually convenient time and date (it does not need to be flyable (in fact non flyable days a preferred). Please do not simply turn up on a flyable day and expect a site briefing.
